It is in the bones of me
This place
The great flat
And the open sky
The twist of a lane
To my home
The stone walls of my cottage
I loved this place then
But
I had already loved
This place before
In the days
When everything existed
In my mind
So much larger
Than reality
When snowdrifts
Still closed schools
And I was safe in my parents’ love
And the cathedral that
Shaped the skyline
Was the constant
On the horizon
